Gurudwara Sri Nanak Darbar Sahib stands in the village of Lakhpat in Kutch district, Gujarat, about 135 km from Bhuj city. Guru Nanak Dev Ji stayed here, at the home of a Sindhi Hindu family, both going to and returning from Mecca during his fourth missionary journey (Udasi) between 1519 and 1521 CE.

The family preserved the house exactly as it was after Guru Sahib’s visit, and it remains home to his kharawan (sandals) as well as those of Baba Sri Chand Ji, who is said to have brought Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s cradle here, which is still preserved at the Gurudwara today. UNESCO recognised the site with a Heritage Award, and in the 1990s the Sindhi family that had safeguarded it for generations handed the site over to the Sikh community, who look after it now.
