Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was staying in the nearby village of Nandpur.

Guru Tegh Bahadur was travelling from Anandpur to Assam with his family and 300 Sikhs. When the villagers of Railon heard that Guru Tegh Bahadur was staying at Nandpur, they invited Guru Ji to visit Railon also.

Guru Tegh Bahadur accepted the request and camped at the site of the Gurdwara. Guru Tegh Bahadur sat under a Bohar tree and washed his feet in the nearby pond.

The villagers informed Guru Tegh Bahadur that there was a serious disease in the village and even newly born babies were getting infected. Guru Tegh Bahadur said that those that bathe at the location of the pond would find themselves cured.

Bhai Bhagtu donated the surrounding land of Guru Tegh Bahadur's camp and had a Thara (platform) marking Guru Tegh Bahadur's visit constructed.
