Sotran is located 1km southeast of the growing town of Banga in the Nawanshahr district of Punjab.
Gurdwara Sri Gurplaha Sahib Sotran, also known as Gurdwara Gurplah Patshahi Chevin, is dedicated to Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji who stayed here briefly under a plah tree (Butia fondosa) on his way to Kiratpur (from Kartarpur) early in 1635.
After winning the Battle of Kartarpur and defeating Painde Khan, Guru Hargobind came here with his family including Baba Gurditta, the future Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji, the future Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and Mata Nanaki Ji. Guru Hargobind stayed here for one night and then travelled to the site of
Maharaja Ranjit Singh had the original Gurdwara constructed. The present building, which replaced a modest old structure, was constructed in 1965 under the supervision of Bhai Seva Singh Anandpur vale. Situated in a walled compound entered through a tall gateway, it comprises a square marble floored hall with the sanctum in the middle.
