Guru Tegh Bahadur, the 9th Sikh Guru, stayed at this site around 1665–66, during his journey from Etawah toward Allahabad (then part of a village called Kahnapur or Kanhaiyapur)
Devotees recognize it as one of the first gurudwaras in Kanpur, commemorating his historic stop and contribution to religious legacy
The current three-storey building was developed in the early 20th century by Sant Praduman Singh, and completed in around 1971
It operates under the name Sri Guru Singh Sabha, managed by a local Sikh committee
