A Story of Honesty and Kindness
Once upon a time in a town called Eminabad, there lived a kind man named Bhai Lalo. He was a carpenter, which means he worked with wood to make things. He didn’t have much money, but he was always honest and worked hard. He earned every coin with his own hands and was happy with what he had.
One day, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, a wise and loving teacher, came to Eminabad. Bhai Lalo invited him to his home. He served Guru Ji some simple food—just roti (flatbread) and water. But he gave it with love and honesty. Guru Nanak Ji smiled and said, “This simple food is full of sweetness because it is earned with honesty.”
In the same town lived a rich man named Malik Bhago. He had a big house and many servants. But he was proud and sometimes took money unfairly from the poor. When Malik Bhago heard that Guru Nanak was in town, he invited him to a big feast with many fancy dishes. But Guru Ji refused. Malik Bhago became angry and asked, “Why did you eat at a poor man’s house and not come to mine?”
Guru Nanak Ji said, “Bring me a piece of bread from Bhai Lalo’s home and one from your feast.” He then took both breads in his hands.
Everyone was shocked! 😲 Guru Ji said, “Bhai Lalo’s food is pure. It is earned with hard work and honesty. Malik Bhago’s food is stained with the pain of poor people.”
This story teaches us a big lesson:
“Honest work brings true happiness. Be like Bhai Lalo!”
