A Story of Change and Realization
Sajjan was a man who pretended to be kind and religious. He wore white clothes, built an inn (sarai), and welcomed travelers with a smile. But deep inside, he was not good. He would rob and even harm the people who stayed at his inn.
One day, Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Bhai Mardana were traveling. They reached Sajjan’s inn. Sajjan welcomed them warmly, thinking he could trick them like his other victims. But Guru Nanak Ji already knew what kind of man Sajjan really was.
That evening, Guru Nanak Dev Ji sang beautiful hymns (Shabads). His words were full of truth and wisdom. Sajjan was touched by the deep meaning of the hymns. It was like Guru Ji held a mirror to his heart.
Sajjan began to cry. He realized his mistakes and how much harm he had done. He fell at Guru Nanak’s feet and said, “Forgive me, Guru Ji. I want to change.”
Guru Nanak Ji said, “Change your ways, help others, and live truthfully.”
Sajjan truly changed. He gave away his stolen wealth to the poor. He turned his inn into a shelter for travelers, serving them with love and honesty.
“Even a bad person can become good with the light of truth.”
