A Story of Ego, Obedience, and Transformation
Bhai Mana was a devoted Sikh during the time of Guru Angad Dev Ji. He was known for his dedication but also had a hidden sense of ego and pride in his service.
One day, Guru Angad Dev Ji asked all Sikhs to help clean the area around the Gurdwara. Everyone obeyed — except Bhai Mana. He thought, “Why should I do such lowly work? I do more important sewa.”
Guru Ji noticed this and calmly said, “Mana is no longer a Sikh of the Guru.” These words deeply pierced Bhai Mana’s heart. He realized that pride had taken over his devotion.
Bhai Mana begged for forgiveness. Guru Ji instructed him to stand outside the Gurdwara every day and ask incoming Sikhs, “Is Mana accepted yet?” This continued for days… weeks… months.
Eventually, the sangat (community) said, “Yes, Bhai Mana is accepted.” When this was reported to Guru Angad Dev Ji, He smiled and embraced Bhai Mana — who had now truly let go of ego and become humble.
“The Guru accepts those who let go of their ego and truly serve with humility.”
