Religious and Historic Importance
Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib, situated on the sacred banks of the River Ganga in Patna, Bihar, is the second revered Takht of Sikhism and the spiritual heart of Sikhi in Eastern India. It marks the birthplace of the tenth Sikh Master, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, born here on December 22, 1666 (Prakash Parv).
Before Guru Gobind Singh Ji's birth, the site was blessed by First Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, during his eastern Udasis (travels), and later by Ninth Guru, Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, who stayed here with Mata Gujri Ji while spreading the divine word in Eastern India.
The original structure was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the sovereign ruler of the Sikh Empire, preserving the sacred spot where Gobind Rai spent his early childhood before moving to Anandpur Sahib.
The complex preserves sacred childhood relics of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, including his small iron cradle (Pangura), small gold and iron swords, wooden sandals (Khadawan), and four iron arrows. Every December, the grand celebration of Prakash Parv draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from across the globe.
