Gurudwara Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Sahib, also known as Gurudwara Sri Padal Sahib, stands on National Highway 21 on the Mandi–Kullu road. Guru Gobind Singh Ji came here on the invitation of Raja Sidh Sen of Mandi, pitching his own tent at the site while the Mata Jis were given quarters in the ruler’s palace — a wing still maintained by the royal family today. Guru Sahib stayed for six months and nineteen days.

As Guru Sahib prepared to leave, Raja Sidh Sen, worried about facing Aurangzeb’s cruelty alone, asked for his protection. At that moment Guru Sahib was taking aim at a clay pitcher floating in the River Beas; his shot pierced it clean through, yet it stayed afloat, and Guru Sahib declared that Mandi would be preserved just as that pitcher was. Guru Sahib’s bed, rawab, gun, and other belongings are preserved here, along with a rock in the Beas where he would meditate each day of his stay.
