Gurudwara Sri Baoli Sahib stands in Niyamatpura on Idgah Hills in Bhopal. According to local tradition, a man named Ganpat Lal, once cursed for his misconduct towards a woman, fell gravely ill and found no relief from any physician or healer. Turned away even by his own family, he came to live in a small hut near what is now Gurudwara Sri Tekri Sahib. When the Sufi saint Pir Jalaluddin passed by one day, Ganpat Lal fell at his feet seeking help, and the Pir told him that only Baba Nanak could truly help him — and from then on, Ganpat Lal called on Guru Nanak’s name constantly.

Hearing his plea, Guru Nanak Dev Ji himself came to this place. When Ganpat Lal begged for mercy, Guru Sahib asked Bhai Bala Ji to bring water; though Bhai Bala Ji searched and found none, Guru Sahib told him the water was there before him, and water was found at once. Guru Sahib had Bhai Bala Ji play the rabab as he sprinkled the water over Ganpat Lal, who began joyously calling out Guru Nanak’s name and was blessed with healing. When Ganpat Lal came to his senses, Guru Sahib had already departed, but the imprint of his feet remained on the stone where he had stood — and the spot where the water appeared became Gurudwara Sri Baoli Sahib.
