Gurudwara Sri Baddi Sangat Sahib stands in Mohalla Neechi Baag in Varanasi (Banaras). Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, travelling through Delhi, Mathura, Agra, Kanpur and Allahabad, was invited here by Bhai Kalyan Ji, a devoted disciple of Guru Nanak Dev Ji then over a hundred years old and unable to travel himself. Guru Sahib accepted the prayerful invitation and stayed several months, accompanied by Mata Gujari Ji, Mata Nanaki Ji, Mama Kirpal Das Ji and other followers, teaching the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji to the sangat.

One day, on the occasion of a solar eclipse, Bhai Kalyan Ji suggested they go bathe in the Ganga, but Guru Sahib asked instead for the Ganga to give her darshan right there. Removing a stone from the ground, Guru Sahib caused fresh water to flow out, filling the compound, before setting the stone back in place — the spot is preserved at the Gurudwara to this day. When Guru Sahib prepared to leave, Bhai Kalyan Ji and the sangat, troubled at the thought of separation, were gifted Guru Sahib’s Chola Sahib and Jora Sahib. Years later, the young Bal Gobind Rai Ji (Guru Gobind Singh Ji), travelling from Sri Patna Sahib to Sri Anandpur Sahib at age seven, also stayed here and gifted his own Jora Sahib — all three sacred garments remain preserved at this Gurudwara.
