How am I doing? Robert Frost put it well: “The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep.” Life is both challenging and interesting, as we juggle so many roles and try to do justice to all of them.
A Balanced Scorecard for Being Good Human (BSBGH) is a self-evaluation tool to measure how well we're performing the role of being a good human being. It has no age criteria — the earlier the better — and can be revisited as often as you like; your birthday, when you get a year wiser, can be a natural milestone. Feel free to include or drop whichever parameters matter to you, weighted according to your own Purpose of Life.
Self
Accomplishment of my mission and vision, my core values, my achievements, my health, wealth, career growth, self-belief, positive attitude, time management, contentment, maturity in crisis, and my experience in spirituality and self-fulfilment.
Family
My accomplishments for my family, family harmony, my relationship with ageing parents and with my spouse, the upbringing and overall development of my children, and whether I've created enough so my family can live peacefully after I'm gone.
Friends
How often I connect with friends, how genuinely I help them in their moments of difficulty, and what I've learned from true friendship.
Society
Whether I'm a good Samaritan — health check-ups, blood donation camps, organ donation, and how often I give to the needy and experience the joy of giving.
Environment
My contribution to reuse, reduce and recycle, tree plantation, water conservation, solar energy, and reduced paper and electricity use.
