Established around 1914 on land generously donated by Khan Bahadur Ida Khan, elder brother of former President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed.
The initial structure was a corrugated iron-sheet building; replaced with a one-storey RCC building in 1925–26, and expanded into a five-storey structure by 1975.
Today, the temple is a vibrant spiritual centre for Guwahati’s estimated Sikh population of over 6,000 and serves as the administrative hub for multiple Gurudwaras across the city.
