Gurudwara Sri Patshahi Chevin Sahib stands in the interior of old Pilibhit city, across the Lakkar Bazar (wood market). On the request of Baba Almast Ji, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji had come to Gurudwara Sri Nanakmata Sahib, where local Sidhs asked Raja Baj Bahadur of Pilibhit to move against Guru Sahib. But when the Raja came face to face with Guru Sahib, he fell at his feet instead — he was one of the 52 Rajput rulers Guru Sahib had freed from captivity at Gwalior Fort. The Raja then asked Guru Sahib to accompany him to Pilibhit, and Guru Sahib stayed and preached here.
A blind man suffering from leprosy touched the dust of Guru Sahib’s feet to his eyes and his sight returned at once. When he asked to be cured of his leprosy as well, Guru Sahib asked him instead to take up the daily seva of sweeping (jhaaru di seva), a service still remembered at this site.
