Gurudwara Sri Heera Ghaat Sahib stands in the village of Bahmanvaada, Nanded district. When Guru Gobind Singh Ji first arrived in the Deccan, he stayed here, and Emperor Bahadur Shah, travelling with him, presented Guru Sahib with a precious diamond. Guru Sahib threw it straight into the Godavari flowing behind their camp, leaving the emperor stunned that such a valuable gift had been cast away without a second thought.
Sensing the emperor’s distress, Guru Sahib told him that his diamond was still there in the Godavari, and that he was welcome to choose one for himself. When Bahadur Shah went to the riverbank, he found the riverbed scattered with diamonds even finer than the one he had given — and returned humbled, bowing to Guru Sahib and confessing his misplaced attachment to wealth.
