Gurudwara Sri Damdama Sahib stands within walking distance of Gurudwara Sri Guru Ka Taal, on the Delhi Road in Agra. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji pitched his tents here to rest after hunting, during a journey he made to Agra alongside Emperor Jahangir, whom he had once saved from a furious lion during a hunt near Delhi.

When the Agra sangat heard of Guru Sahib’s arrival, they came in large numbers for his darshan. A devoted Sikh who cut grass for Guru Sahib’s horses mistakenly entered Jahangir’s tent instead, laying down a coin and grass while praying for the true Name and salvation. Jahangir, moved by the Sikh’s devotion, revealed his identity and pointed him to Guru Sahib’s tent next door — and the Sikh, delighted simply to have Guru Sahib’s darshan, offered his humble gift there instead and received Guru Sahib’s blessing.
