Marks the First Battle of Chamkaur, fought on 15 January 1703 (16 Magh 1759 Bk), when Guru Gobind Singh Ji and a small Khalsa force engaged two imperial generals—Sayyid Beg and Alif Khan—who had been instigated by Raja Ajmer Chand to attack the Guru during his return from Kurukshetra to Anandpur Sahib

Despite being outnumbered, the Sikhs fought valiantly. Witnessing the Guru motivated Sayyid Beg to switch sides, but Alif Khan attacked fiercely—and was ultimately defeated

The site was later established as Ranjitgarh Sahib ("Fortress of Victory") to commemorate the Sikh triumph over the Mughal-affiliated forces
