This site marks the fortress-like double-storeyed “Garhi” provided by Rai Jagat Singh and Roop Chand for Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his companion Sikhs after leaving Anandpur Sahib and crossing River Sarsa in December 1705

On the night of 6–7 December (7 Poh, 1705), Guru Ji had designated eight Sikhs to guard each side of the Garhi and posted Maan Singh and Kotha Singh at its entrance. Guru Gobind Singh Ji, along with Sahibzadas Ajit Singh Ji and Jujhar Singh Ji, held the first floor during the siege

Despite being heavily outnumbered, the Sikhs fought valiantly. Eventually, Guru Ji escaped under cover of darkness after transferring his attire to Bhai Sangat Singh, obeying the Panj Pyare's directive. Only two Sikhs remained behind, sacrificing their lives rather than surrender

The site is also referred to as “Tilak Asthan”, symbolizing the moment Guru Ji symbolically entrusted his turban and duty to the Khalsa
