Originally known as “Jaisinghpura Palace”, the site was a bungalow owned by Raja Jai Singh in the 17th century. In 1664, Guru Har Krishan Ji, the eighth Sikh Guru, stayed here while Delhi was afflicted by a smallpox and cholera epidemic
During his stay, Guru Har Krishan ministered to the sick, giving Comfort, food, and medicinal water from a well. Many reportedly recovered, leading to the site being considered sacred
The bungalow was then converted into a Gurdwara, and in 1783 Sikh General Sardar Baghel Singh built the current shrine among nine others in Delhi
