Gurudwara Sri Damdama Sahib stands near Hazrat Nizamuddin’s Dargah and Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi, marking the spot where Guru Gobind Singh Ji met Emperor Bahadur Shah in 1707, soon after the emperor took the throne. In their meeting, Guru Sahib set out in detail the officers and hill rajas responsible for the persecution of the Sikhs and the destruction of Anandpur Sahib, and the emperor promised to act against them once his rule was secure.

A demonstration of martial skill followed between the royal army and the Sikh sangat, and Guru Sahib’s side proved so formidable — even a trained buffalo driving off a battle elephant — that the emperor came away deeply impressed by the discipline and training Guru Sahib had instilled in his Sikhs.
