Gurudwara Sri Shergaah Sahib stands about four kilometres north of Gurudwara Sri Paonta Sahib, in Sirmaur district. Villagers from the surrounding area, terrorised by a man-eating lion that none had dared to face, appealed to Guru Gobind Singh Ji for help, and Guru Sahib agreed to confront it.

Guru Sahib went to the lion’s lair beneath a Beheda tree — still standing within the Gurudwara grounds today — and challenged the old and dangerous animal. As it leapt to attack, Guru Sahib held the charge on his shield and, in a single stroke of his sword, ended the danger to the villagers for good.
