Gurudwara Sri Mar Jiwala Sahib (the Gurudwara of Death and Life) stands in the village of Tanda, near Kicha, part of the same sequence of miracles recounted in full at Gurudwara Sri Nanak Puri Sahib nearby. Sold by a Ruhela Pathan to a merchant while appearing as a child, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was set to graze a flock of sheep and warned that any sheep he touched with his staff would die instantly.
The merchant, testing this claim, insisted he do exactly that — and the sheep fell dead at the child Guru’s touch. When Guru Sahib touched the same sheep again, it rose back to life, whole and well. Witnessing this, the merchant understood he stood before no ordinary child, and fell at his feet, giving up the trade in human lives from that day.
