Gurudwara Sri Kangan Ghat Sahib stands a short walk from Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib, on the bank of the Ganges as it once flowed here in Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s childhood. It was here, as young Gobind Rai Ji, that he once threw his gold bracelet (kangan) into the river, unattached to worldly wealth even as a child.
The site also marks his meeting with the priest Shiv Dutt, a worshipper of Lord Rama who performed daily rituals before an idol. Guru Sahib taught him that Rama could not be reached through an idol alone, since the divine dwells within every living being — a teaching that opened Shiv Dutt’s eyes and led him to give up idol worship.
