Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji left the village of Maiser Khana and travelled to Pandher, arriving in the afternoon. Guru Sahib asked the villagers where he might rest, and one of them pointed in jest to a poor potter’s house, saying that this was where travellers stayed.

Paying no attention to the discourtesy, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji went on towards the village of Ali Sher. When the head of Pandher afterwards learned what had happened, and who the traveller had been, he was filled with remorse. The elders gathered a few lumps of jaggery and some money as an offering, and set out for Ali Sher Kalan to ask forgiveness.

On the way they met a man returning from paying homage to Guru Sahib, and asked him what they should offer to be forgiven. He answered that nothing was needed — Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji is compassionate, and does not look at the faults of others. The villagers shared out the offerings among themselves and went to Guru Sahib empty-handed.
