Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji arrived here from Anandpur Sahib in January 1666 and stayed two days at the site of the present Gurdwara, where there was then a pond.

Local tradition recalls that twenty-two villages of the surrounding country were settled by peasants of the Javada clan, whose leader Tirloka was a follower of the bairagi ascetic Madho Das. Tirloka was proud and paid no attention to Guru Sahib and the Sikhs. A humble man named Durgu, however, served Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji with great respect and devotion.

Seeing Tirloka walk past in his silver slippers, Guru Sahib asked the sangat who he was and observed that the man lacked understanding — for rank and finery weigh nothing beside a heart turned to seva.
